A New Year, New Perspective, A New You!

My New Year’s Resolutions are to walk in my purpose and surrender to God‘s will. This requires relinquishing control and allowing God to walk me into this next stage of my life.

I don’t typically believe in setting New Year’s resolutions, since we often set goals like losing weight, fixing finances or finding the right person, starting off committed, and then quickly lose momentum. We often begin the year with good intentions and enthusiasm to achieve our goals. Take getting in shape, for instance—we might return to the gym to finally use that membership we've been paying for all year. We also start making healthier choices by prepping meals, choosing better options at restaurants, and drinking more water while cutting back on alcohol or sugary drinks —whichever is your poison.

Over time, I tend to lose focus on my goals, often falling off within the first quarter of the year. I’ll revisit them again because they’re important to me. I start strong again and as I’m sure you can guess, I slowly fall off. This stop and start syndrome repeats itself throughout the year. When the end of the year hits, in January of the next year I say, I’m serious this time, I’m going to…

It’s a vicious cycle.

Some of us experience this even without it being a resolution. They are just personal goals that we establish but never finish.

Because of a turn of events that occurred over last few months, it’s caused me to reevaluate my career and make a course change. I’ve decided to walk into my purpose and focus on growing my coaching business. This requires setting personal goals. Uh oh! In looking back, I’ve been working on this for a while now but follow the same pattern of starting strong and falling off.

I decided that it’s time for me to do things differently. I then realized that we start and stop never really sticking to something long enough to accomplish what we want to accomplish. This goal was important to me because I knew this was where God was leading me. I did not want to let this go, falling into the same patterns only to find myself feeling the same way or having regrets for years down the road.

I had to take the time to understand why I have not been able to see this goal through. Why have I let other things get in the way? The same way someone may ask, why can’t I stick with a diet or workout plan? Why do I continue spending unnecessarily or why do I keep dating the same type of person? There’s some sort of inner block that causes us to stop midway through. If we don’t take the time to identify this and work through it, we’ll continue with this pattern.

Starting this new journey to fulfill my purpose through coaching and writing meant stepping outside my comfort zone. This was exciting and scary at the same time. I knew in order for me to see this through, I would need to do the work.

So, I went to work!

I began reflecting on what might cause me to stumble. Although I’ve pursued this goal before, something was preventing me from moving forward. This moment required genuine self-reflection and a spiritual connection. Through meditation and prayer, I discovered that fear and doubt were my obstacles. While I can confront fear by persevering, it was truly doubt that was holding me back.

Doubt in myself, questioning whether I was truly capable of building a business and doubting God. I know that I’m a great coach and it’s evident in the people I’ve helped. But building a business around it was where I lacked confidence. It was my weakened faith that caused me to believe that God wouldn’t bless me. As I reflected, God revealed all the ways He has blessed me throughout my life. It was as if I walked through my past, amazed by everything He’s done. I realized how He has protected both me and my daughters, and how He advanced my career even when I lacked the qualifications. He has generously given me many things, brought special people into my life, and provided career growth—blessings I never actively pursued.

God did it all for me, in spite of.

I dug deeper and started journalizing every situation I could recall. In doing so, I noticed how often I stepped out on faith and tried something new because God placed an opportunity in front of me. He not only granted favor with these opportunities, but I also received the grace to walk out these experiences successfully.

After walking through this, it didn’t make sense to continue doubting myself or God. There’s so much evidence that tells me otherwise.

All this time, fear and doubt have been holding me back from moving forward in my journey of building my coaching business. This was an inner block for me. However, reflecting on my life and seeing how God has blessed me and how I’ve confidently taken on new opportunities, I know the story I told myself wasn’t true. This has completely changed my perspective and now I can move forward in my journey. This post is evidence of my transformation as I am now walking in my purpose.

As you think about your 2026 New Year Resolutions, Purpose or Goals, whatever it is you’re trying to accomplish, if you suffer from the start and stop syndrome, I encourage you to work through this process. Do the discovery work to understand what is causing you to not accomplish your goal. Even if it’s a new goal, you can do discovery work to identify anything that may cause you not to follow through on this new goal.

If it’s your finances, ask yourself, what’s causing you to have bad spending habits. What is it that you’re telling yourself about your financial situation that allows you to believe it’s ok to spend versus save.

If it’s a relationship you’re seeking but you keep attracting the same type of people, do the discovery work to understand what is it within yourself that causes you to choose them. What do you believe about yourself, your value or your worth.

Work through those inner blocks, whether you do it yourself or seek help from a counselor, therapist or a coach (I know a good one). Once you do, you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. I hope that this has been a blessing to you, and I wish you the best in 2026.
