Have you ever stayed in a place where you’ve outstayed your welcome? A job, a relationship, a friendship or even a living arrangement. Have you felt like holding on is doing more harm than letting go? I reached a pivotal point in my life, a moment when I knew it was time for a change. Suddenly, everything felt like it was falling apart, work, my health, and my emotional and mental well-being began to unravel. It all seemed to come out of nowhere, or so I thought.
I see now that God had been whispering to me for quite some time, His small, still voice urging, "It's time to move." I heard it again and again, but the message kept getting drowned out by the daily hustle and constant demands of life. Despite the subtle nudges, it wasn't until I was hit with what felt like a sucker punch, a sudden, jarring moment of pain and confusion that I truly took notice. At first, I wasn't sure if I had seen it coming, but as I reflected, the signs had always been there. They were masquerading themselves as everyday obstacles. The kind I usually pushed through without pause, treating them as ordinary challenges rather than signals to slow down and reevaluate.
In reflection, every barrier I forced myself past was like running a stop sign God had placed in my path. He wanted me to pause and reconsider my direction, but instead, I did what I'd always done: kept pushing forward until the weight of it all finally knocked me down. Emotionally, mentally, and physically, I found myself in a place of deep hurt. Work was draining and I was dealing with loss. I was experiencing pain in my body which limited my activities and prevented me from doing the things I enjoyed in life. I felt alone. As I lay there, overwhelmed by pain and uncertainty, I realized something had to give, this was my turning point.
I’d been in dark places before and knew deep down I couldn’t stay there. Gathering what little strength I had, I picked myself up, bruised knees, battered ego, and all and decided it was time for a change. But honestly, I didn’t know what that change looked like. Since God seemed so intent on moving me, I started with Him. It was on a Sunday morning, I turned on YouTube to catch The Potter’s House church service. As you have it, divine timing placed Pastor Toure’s message in front of me: "It's time for a fast."
Fasting has always challenged me because I’m not good at restrictive diets. I was relieved when he left it open for us to decide. I knew God needed my attention, so for me, it was important to cut out the daily distractions. I gave up the comforts of TV, social media, and movies. The quietness forced me to take another look at my life and confront my fears, frustrations and insecurities head on without the usual noise to drown out my thoughts. I was left with nothing but my pain and my prayers. Yet slowly, as I filled the silence with prayer, meditation, and listening to sermons and motivational talks, something began to shift within me.
Over the course of time, a sense of calm washed over me. The worries I’d been clinging to loosened their grip, and I felt clarity about my true priorities, a clarity I’d been yearning for but never quite grasped. God’s presence became more tangible through messages that resonated deep inside me. I knew it was time to let go of my plan and embrace what God had in store for me. I experienced moments of peace, realizing that the path forward didn’t require all the answers, just faith in the next step. With restored joy and a renewed sense of purpose, God began to reveal a plan for my life, gently guiding me toward what was next.
Reflecting on this journey, I see now that every obstacle was a gentle nudge, a lesson in growth and grace. Pain wasn’t a punishment, but a prompt to pause and listen. Through fasting, I learned that discomfort can be a doorway to transformation, and isolation can become an invitation to a deeper connection with God. My setbacks prepared me for a season of creativity and progress, fueling my desire to live out the plan He had set before me.
That push became a blessing, igniting a new excitement for what lies ahead. As I work to put God’s vision into motion, I’m reminded that transformation isn’t a single leap, but a series of steps, each one carried by faith, courage, and a willingness to embrace vulnerability. Moving forward, I carry the lessons learned and trust that God’s plan will continue to unfold, one moment of clarity at a time.
Follow me on my journey.
