The Power of Recalling Your Wins

I breath in courage…I breath out fear.

Part of my morning prayer/meditation and breath work. I've been praying for courage lately, believing that I’ve been letting fear grip me. One day it was revealed to me, that do I have courage. You see, God began to reveal to me all of the courageous acts I’ve done.  The most recent was my greatest act of courage. I left my 30-year career to step out on faith to grow my coaching business.  It was very scary and I had a lot of fear surrounding the decision. Then I recalled someone saying fear is just,

False.

Evidence.

Appearing.

Real.

Fear is a response to a perceived danger, threat or uncertainty. While there was a concern of uncertainty, I knew that it was in God’s plan for me to leave and build my coaching business. That’s when I stepped out on faith. My faith overpowered the fear that I had been experiencing.

Reflecting on the times I acted courageously despite fear reminded me that I do have courage. It’s easy to forget the things you’ve accomplished over the years, especially when you’re my age since so much time has passed and I’ve had so many experiences. This practice may seem too simple, but it works. I practice this exercise with my clients when they are concerned about taking the next step, whether it’s in their career like me, their business or their relationship. I simply ask them to tell me about a time when they faced a similar decision or situation, moved forward with it and were successful. Nine times out of ten, they can recall it and the details about how and why it worked out. From there, we’re able to talk through how they can apply the same practice of what made it work to this new situation. It works every time!

The next time fear, doubt, or worry makes you hesitate over a major decision, remember a time when you moved forward and achieved what you wanted. Sometimes, a shift in perspective is all we need. Try it and let me know how it goes.
